Series 600 doors carry a 1¾-inch frame depth and use a standard Schlage-compatible prep, which means aftermarket locksets fit without machining. The Series 800 impact-rated units have reinforced corner brackets and a heavier hinge schedule; swap a standard hinge in there and the door will sag within two seasons.

To identify your series, check the edge of the door slab for a stamped label near the top hinge, or look for a silver rating sticker on the hinge jamb. If the label is gone, measure the stile width and the frame depth. We carry both OEM CGI hardware and verified aftermarket equivalents for Series 600 and 800; for Estate Collection multipoint systems, we source factory-direct because the cam spacing is proprietary and an aftermarket substitute will fail to throw all three bolts. Signs Your CGI Door Installation Is Failing

• The door drags or sticks at the threshold. In North Miami, this usually means the composite sill cap has swollen from repeated wet-dry cycles, or the adjustable threshold screws have corroded in place. The fix is rarely the door itself; it’s the sill assembly or the subsill drainage path that’s clogged with debris.
• The multipoint lock won’t fully engage or the handle spins. The gearbox inside the lock mechanism strips out when owners force the handle against misaligned keepers. On CGI units, the keeper positions are adjustable, but most homeowners don’t know to look for the slotted holes behind the strike plates.

CGI’s 6000-series aluminum is anodized, but if the anodizing was scratched during installation or a non-stainless fastener was substituted, the frame will weep white oxide.

DIY or Call Us?

There is a short list of things an owner can safely check before calling. Verify that the threshold screws turn freely and that the weep holes in the sill are not packed with sand or insect debris. Tighten the keeper screws with a Phillips head; if they spin without biting, the anchor is stripped and needs a wall anchor replacement, not more torque.

What we do not recommend: adjusting multipoint lock mechanisms, replacing IGUs, or cutting a new hinge mortise. The multipoint gearbox is under spring tension and can release abruptly if disassembled without the door supported. IGU replacement requires a cleanroom environment and a heated press to reseal; field attempts always fog within months. And a hinge mortise cut freehand with a chisel will not carry the load squarely, which is how doors develop the diagonal crack at the lock stile that we see on Biscayne corridor retrofits.
