• Sash drops or won’t stay open. The constant-force or block-and-tackle balance has lost tension. • Air infiltration at the meeting rail or sill. The weatherstrip pile compresses permanently or the sill track wears a groove. On older 5000 Series units, the pile height was 0.270 inch; replacement requires the exact match or the sash drags.

DIY or Call Us?

There is no high-tension spring or electrical hazard in a standard Mr-Glass window replacement, but there is a precision hazard. An owner can safely check the series marking, photograph the failed component, and verify whether the sash is square in the frame with a basic tape measure. What goes wrong in DIY is the ordering: Mr-Glass changed balance shoe dimensions mid-production in 2019, and the wrong shoe means the balance channel tears the jamb liner on first operation.

We also see homeowners crack the replacement IGU by setting it without proper setting blocks or by over-torquing the glazing bead. The bead snaps in at a specific angle; force it flat and it splits, leaving the glass unsecured.
